日本は整然としているとよく言われるが、この都心のマンションの階段はそうではない。壁には規則が印刷されているが、その空間には掲示物よりもむしろ日々の生活の痕跡が色濃く残っている。「ペット禁止」と掲示されているにもかかわらず、住人の飼い犬がここで排尿したことがある。その汚れは何日も残り、誰の目にも明らかだが、誰も直そうとしない。
Japan is often described as orderly, but the stairwells of this inner‑city apartment block tell a different story. The walls are lined with printed rules, yet the space carries the marks of daily life more clearly than the notices do. Dogs owned by tenants have urinated here despite the posted prohibition: no pets. The stains remain for days, visible to everyone, corrected by no one.
写真は、こうした小さな使用と無視の痕跡に焦点を当てている。本来その空間に属するはずのない痕跡が、それでも空間に溶け込んでいる。人は時に、気に留めないことがある。ルールを守ったり、汚れを落としたり、矛盾を認めたりするために必要な労力は、行動する意志よりも大きい。ルールは秩序を主張するが、階段は、その主張がいかに容易に無視されるかを示している。
The photographs focus on these small signs of use and disregard, marks never meant to belong to the space yet absorbed into it all the same. At times, people just can’t be bothered. The effort required to enforce the rule, to clean the stain, or to acknowledge the contradiction is greater than the will to act. The rules insist on order; the stairwell shows how easily that insistence is ignored.
このシリーズは、見過ごされてきた痕跡とそれを保持する建築物に留まることで、共有スペースにおける秩序が、固定された理想としてではなく、習慣、無視、時間、そして誰も見ていないときに人々が行う小さな決断によって形作られるものとして、静かに書き換えられる様子を示しています。
By staying with these overlooked traces and the architecture that holds them, the series shows how order is quietly rewritten in shared spaces, not as a fixed ideal, but as something shaped by habit, neglect, time, and the small decisions people make when no one is watching.
