Paintings by Popelier 1998-2023. Individual artworks that were not part of any particular solo exhibition and commissions.
These are all the artworks that appeared in my first ever solo show, held at Poly Gone Cowboy, Brisbane, Australia in 2014. This was the first time to show a new development in my paintings of creating subtle textures by applying paint to the surface of the canvas that was covered with pieces of newspaper glued with wallpaper paste.
This series of paintings was the idea of a Japanese collector living in Ireland. He specifically wanted three paintings depicting ‘evening’, ‘midnight’ and ‘morning’. These times of the day play an important part, due to different time zones, in his working life.
Some rearranged daily icons from everyday Japanese life bring a tough, and, perhaps, unwanted message. It’s hard to face the truth sometimes.
Artworks that are not for the faint hearted. They provoke thought and consideration. Warning! Heavy themes ahead. Enter if you dare.
I am very much into recycling materials whenever I can with analogue (physical) art, but I decided to take it a step further by recycling some of my paintings digitally. Some of the artworks have meaning, there are explanations for these, and others are purely decorative.
